Champions League group stage clears up as Matchday 5 approaches

The UEFA Champions League is entering its final stretches of the group stage, and many clubs are trying to lock up a spot in the knockout rounds. Others are trying to avoid elimination in a desperate attempt to make the next stage.

Three teams already qualified for the knockout rounds, as Manchester United, Malaga and Porto will play in the next phase of the tournament. All three made sure of this on the previous matchday, with United ensuring it won its group.

Meanwhile, many clubs will be looking to join the ranks after the upcoming match is complete. Chelsea faces Juventus in a match that could put each side in the driver's seat for a chance to get to the next round, while a loss would cripple their chances. A Chelsea win would actually see them advance in the group, while a win for Shakhtar Donetsk would also put it through in Group E.

Surprise club Celtic will help themselves into the knockout round with a win against Benfica, while Barcelona would do the same if it defeats Spartak Moscow. An Arsenal victory in Group B would put it through the the next round, while Schalke would be able to do the same if it defeats Montpellier.

Clubs try to stay afloat
While many of the bigger sides have destiny in their hands, some others will need a bit of help. Manchester City will need to win its final two matches to have an opportunity to play in the next phase. This won't be easy, as the club must face Real Madrid on Matchday 5.

AC Milan will play Anderlecht, with both clubs needing a victory to have a chance at the next round. A win could put the Italian side through, but the Belgians will need points from the final two matches to be sure.
