Yuvraj Singh – Team India’s Role Model and Hero
Yuvraj Singh isn’t just a powerful, 31-year-old left-handed batsman or a tricky bowler or one of Team India’s best players, he’s much more than that. India’s cricket fans recognize him for what he is – a role model and a hero. Not only because he’s starring in cricket, but also because he battled through three cycles of chemotherapy for a cancerous tumor in his left lung.
Singh’s cancer was discovered in 2011 and since then, he has become a leading crusader for cancer awareness. Doctors have told Singh that chances of the cancer returning are very slim and Singh is lending his voice in the mission to diminish the impact of cancer on everyone. In September, he helped the launch of a mobile cancer detection unit in Bangalore. Singh also attended a cancer awareness rally in Kolkata recently with Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala.
He said he was determined to come back to cricket.
“It is the passion to come back,” Singh said. “If you have the passion, you can come back. This is the reason I am back. Hopefully, I can play a few more years for the country.”
Singh’s talents, in support of Team India, may be on display when Team India plays its first test match against the West Indies on Nov. 5. Watch all of Team India’s matches on Willow TV for the rest of the year and all you have to do is send your first Xoom money transfer of $150 or more.
